  • Canada is a country in North America with ten provinces and three union territories. It is located in the northern part of the continent, extending from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean and north to the Arctic Ocean. Its total area is 99.8 lakh square kilometers and Canada is the second largest country in terms of total area and second largest in the world. Its international border with the United States is the largest land boundary in the world. Canada is a developed country, its per capita income is at tenth place globally and its ranking on the Human Development Index is ninth. It has the highest ranking in the international measure of government transparency, civil liberties, life, economic independence, and quality of education. Canada is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. Along with this, it is part of many major international and inter-governmental organizations or groups, including the United Nations, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, G8, Group of Top 10 Countries, G20, North American Free Trade Agreement, Asia Pacific Ocean Economic cooperation is prominent


Derivation
The word Canada St. Lawrence is written by the Iroquoian word "Kanata", meaning "village" or "settlement".
